At the end of February, an Italian restaurateur based in Vétraz-Monthoux (Haute-Savoie) had offered to host the Ukrainian women's basketball team for three months in one of its premises.

On Facebook, this pizzeria manager had launched an appeal for donations in order to obtain beds, sheets and clothing for the players and their coach, driven out of their country by the war.

Since then, as Le Dauphiné Libéré reports, the outpouring of solidarity has taken on an unexpected dimension.

Recipient of thousands of messages from mayors, associations and citizens from all over France, the restaurateur has decided to create a new Facebook page: “Host a Ukrainian In France 74”.

It aims to identify all requests and proposals.

WhatsApp groups have also been created to organize the mutual aid movement.

According to the regional daily, three basketball players should come from Romania by this Saturday, March 5.

Eight others will arrive from Germany a little later.

They will initially be accommodated at the Maria Montessori college in Cruseilles (Haute-Savoie).
