In his book "The paparazzi of the Republic", which comes out this Thursday in bookstores, Renaud Revel returns to the stolen photos of the president who impacted the Fifth Republic.

He explains in particular how the politicians learned to deal with the paparazzi during their mandate.

He confided in his work at the microphone of Héloïse Goy.

INTERVIEW

Who does not remember the stolen photo in

of Mazarine, the daughter of François Mitterrand?

From the cliché in

Closer

by François Hollande on his scooter?

Or the image of Emmanuel Macron who meets a naturist on a beach?

To understand the history of these photos and above all the impact they had on the image of the Presidents of the Republic, Renaud Revel, journalist for the

Journal du Dimanche

, spoke with photographers, politicians and members of their entourage.

In his book

The paparazzi of the Republic,

he tells how politicians have learned to deal with photographers.

"Nicolas Sarkozy played it a lot. That is to say, he was the victim of the paparazzi at the time of the Cécilia affair, and then he played it at the time of his relationship with Carla Bruni", explains he.

"Mitterrand, he strangely had a very good relationship with photographers, going so far as to organize fake 'paparazzades'. So there is an astonishing duplicity and I find that the paroxysm is Emmanuel Macron, because he is the first President of the 5th Republic to literally make a pact with this profession," he continued.

"This is why today there is not a single stolen photo published on Macron. There is at his side a photographer called Sébastien Valiela, who had taken the photos of Mazarine with François Mitterrand, and who followed him throughout his campaign and his entire five-year term. And that is a unique case."

The photo of François Hollande, "the most devastating"

For Renaud Revel, the most impactful stolen photo of a president of the 5th Republic is that of François Hollande rue du Cirque.

"This photo is terrible because it says a lot of things: the lightness of a president, his risk-taking... This photo degrades him. And he will pay for it, I think, because she has done much more harm than speeches. It will undoubtedly remain the most devastating that a president has known under the Fifth Republic," said the journalist.

In addition to this fascinating book, Renaud Revel has also written a documentary on this subject which will be broadcast on the Planète channel next April.
