The agricultural union Euskal Laborarien Batasuna (ELB) mobilized this Wednesday, March 2 to prevent the slaughter of healthy ducks on a farm located in Ilharre (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).

Nearly 200 people gathered to block the road to veterinary services, reports France Bleu Pays Basque

.

No positive case in breeding

None of the waterfowl on this farm is infected with avian flu, but a positive case was detected less than 3 km away, in the commune of Gabat, which prompted the authorities' decision.

The representative of the departmental directorate for the protection of populations went to the site and tried to dialogue with the demonstrators.

In vain.

The veterinary services were finally forced to give up.

The ELB union has denounced since the start of the epidemic the slaughter of healthy animals.
