The Board of Directors of
RTVE
decided to dismiss
Amalia Martínez de Velasco
this Monday by a vote of 6 to 4 , who was elected less than a year ago as
Director of General Content
.
As confirmed by EL MUNDO, it has not yet been decided who will replace her, although the name that sounds the strongest among the members of the corporation is that of
Ana Bordás
, number two of
Martínez de Velasco
and very close to the president of
RTVE
,
José Manuel Pérez Tornero
.
In fact, the four members of the Board of Directors who voted against the dismissal of
Martínez de Velasco
did so on the grounds that there was no substitute.
Pérez Tornero
was asked
about this question and he did not answer.
Sources from the corporation believe that the decision has been rushed because, despite acknowledging the drop in audiences and the situation of the public body, there is no substitute.
Amalia Martínez de Velasco
was appointed Director of General Content for RTVE last May, replacing
Fernando López Puig
, who had held the position for two years after the departure of Toni Sevilla at the beginning of 2019.
Martínez de Velasco's
goal
was to increase public television.
However, in addition to not improving RTVE's audiences, they have sunk even more.
Amalia Martínez de Velasco has extensive experience in the media.
She worked at media giants like
Viacom
(2007-2019) and led the content and marketing strategy for channels like Comedy Central, Paramount Network, and others.
