Her long orange hair will not go unnoticed on stage.

New nugget of the French pop-RnB scene, Joanna intends to put on a show on the

Eurovision France show, you decide

which will be broadcast live on Saturday evening on France 2. The 23-year-old artist there will

perform

Navigateur

, a very personal song "of a woman who fights" and finds her energy and her need for freedom on stage.

Her artistic career began in Rennes in 2018. Barely out of high school Bréquigny, where she frequented the rappers of the Columbine collective, she posted her first clip on YouTube.

The track, titled

Seduction

, quickly went viral, catching the attention of the majors.

But Joanna first went solo, setting up her own label before signing to BMG for her

critically acclaimed debut album

Sérotonine , released in May.

A dazzling career start on which the singer, now based in Paris, has agreed to return for

20 Minutes

.

How did you end up in this Eurovision adventure?

So it's not a girl's dream because I had never watched Eurovision before.

It was the production that approached me.

I was quite surprised at the time because I had the image of a contest of songs of varieties and very general public.

So I didn't understand at first why they came to see me.

I discussed it with them and I lent myself to the game even if it took me a little time to find the song that fits the codes, namely a powerful, unifying, positive and hopeful song.

Where exactly does this title

Navigateur

come from?

I wrote this title in my room before the production contacted me.

I wanted to talk about this feeling of freedom that I feel when I find myself on stage.

The song was different at the base and sounded more club.

But I agreed to rework the song by adding a more unifying, more commercial chorus.

It's also brand new for me to talk about hope, I feel like I'm only now awakening it within me.

I wanted to speak to people of my generation who express fears about the future.

Despite all this, we must continue to see the positive things by remaining ambitious and continuing to fight.

You are also fighting against discrimination, sexual violence or patriarchy...

I really want to break taboos.

That's why I make music.

I have been silent for 20 years about my opinions.

But at some point it had to come out and I went for it.

It was then that I discovered patriarchy and realized that women had a different position in society.

It echoed everything I had been through as a teenager and it made me rage.

This is why I now fight in my songs machismo, discrimination of all kinds or taboos around homosexuality or female sexuality.

But it is also and above all a question of love with the desire to talk about it differently by evoking respect for individuality and the person, compassion, listening.

After several months of stopping, you finally find the scene.

Happy ?

That's what I expected the most.

I started my career on social networks with likes and follows, it's quite strange because we don't really know what we are worth.

Whereas being on stage, seeing people dancing and reacting to your music, it's just magical.

It's the most beautiful thing an artist can dream of, especially when you've been deprived of concerts for two years.

So I can't wait to participate in Eurovision even if I'm terrified at the same time.

Some of your fans compare you to Mylène Farmer.

What inspires you?

It's very flattering because I've been rocked by his music since I was little even though I didn't really understand his words and his music.

She is an artist who has always been ahead of her time.

She managed to talk about taboos while being hugely popular.

It is therefore a source of inspiration for me who am impregnated with his universe.

But I don't try to look like her or copy her either, everything I do is very personal.
