Regarding the so-called "red-eared slider" and "Crayfish" that have a great impact on the ecosystem, the government plans to establish a new mechanism to regulate sales and breeding for sales purposes, and amend the law necessary for this. I decided on a plan.

Both "Red-eared slider" and "Red-eared slider", which are exotic species, have strong fertility and have a great impact on the ecosystem such as depriving the habitat of other organisms, but they are widely bred. Therefore, if it is designated as a "Specified Alien Species" under the current Alien Species Act, which prohibits breeding uniformly, it may be discarded in large quantities.

For this reason, the government has a policy of establishing a new regulatory system, and the Cabinet decided on March 1 to amend the Alien Species Act, which is necessary for this purpose.

The amendment states that some of the regulations on "specific alien species" can be relaxed if the Cabinet Order stipulates.

Using this regulation, "Red-eared slider" and "Crayfish" are designated as "specific alien organisms", and while they are allowed to be captured and bred, they are prohibited from being sold, bred for sale, imported, or released naturally. It is a policy.

In addition, the revised bill has a new category of "specific alien organisms requiring emergency response" in consideration of fire ants, which are highly poisonous and may be established in Japan, and there is a risk that these organisms may be attached to imported products. In some cases, you will be able to enter, inspect, and order disposal even after customs clearance.

The government is aiming to pass the amendment bill in the current ordinary session of the Diet.
