The reason is the Russian invasion of the country.

"We want to highlight the uncertain future that the Ukrainian film industry is now facing and Ukraine needs all the support we can show and contribute to," says Beatrice Karlsson at the Stockholm Film Festival's program department in a press release.

The theme should be noticed in film screenings and guests.

Invited are, among others, the Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, who received the award for best film at last year's festival for his Rhino.

Sentsov, who was previously imprisoned in Russia, has now put down his camera and taken up arms to defend his homeland, the festival organizers state.

As long as the war is going on, Russian films from the festival will also be ported.

"That decision is regrettable but a necessary mark in a time like this.

Russia's actions are unacceptable, "says Karlsson in the press release.

Stockholm Film Festival takes place November 9-20.
