On February 4, 2022, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping signed a joint declaration which consecrated, "

the entry into a new era

 ".

The text affirms a common desire to stem the democratic wave of “the West”, and to counter the expansion of the Atlantic Alliance.

Three weeks later, the Russian offensive on Ukraine began.

Previously concerned with asserting each State's right to sovereignty, China has changed its tone: it now insists on Ukraine's so-called "

complicated

" history with Russia, accuses the United States of having "thrown adding fuel to the fire" and is careful not to condemn Moscow.

Vladimir Poutine as Xi Jinping deploy the same rhetoric: to justify their expansionist appetite, they invoke the ancestral links between their country and those which they want to conquer: Ukraine for Russia, Taiwan for China.

A rewriting of history that fuels a common dream: to restore their old empires.

Faced with this threat, the West is worried and closes its ranks.

Will this be enough to rule out the hypothesis of a Chinese offensive on Taiwan, in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine by the Russians?

Will Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping succeed in redefining the rules of a world order so far dominated by the United States?

Is the democratic world bankrupt, as Beijing and Moscow claim?

Or will it, on the contrary, come out stronger from this crisis?
