We knew the rear view mirror scam, now here is the hose scam.

In the Marne, a 76-year-old man almost paid the price in the parking lot of a supermarket in Tinqueux, reports

L'Union

.

The septuagenarian had just put his groceries in his trunk when he got behind the wheel of his car and drove off.

This is the moment chosen by the alleged scammer to intervene.

“Someone came to tell me that I had a hose protruding from the engine of my Scénic.

He offered to give me a hand and motioned for me to park, ”told the retiree to our colleagues.

A scam set up from scratch

After opening the hood, the man pretends to identify the origin of the problem.

He asks the septuagenarian to put his hands in the engine and, for that, suggests that he take off his jacket.

“The guy went back into the engine and there I saw that he was making manipulations that made no sense.

I understood that he was trying to trick me.

I told him to stop, that the garage was not far and that I was going to go there directly, ”explained the victim.

The mechanic assures him: there is no mechanical problem, specifying moreover that a hose could not protrude from the engine.

The scammer had therefore identified his victim several minutes before and set up the decoy from scratch.

The motorist does not know if the man wanted his car or his jacket…
