At the start of vaccinations with the new vaccine from the manufacturer Novavax in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Health Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) hopes for more people willing to be vaccinated.

"Now the citizens who have been waiting for such a protein vaccine with an active booster must also take advantage of the vaccination offers," she said on Saturday.

The first of around 78,000 doses of the Nuvaxovid vaccine expected in the first quarter would arrive in the country over the weekend, allowing vaccinations to begin in the coming week.

"I'm pleased that the logistics are working so smoothly," said Drese.

"All vaccination staffs in the districts and urban districts are committed to ensuring the rapid start of the Novavax vaccinations."

The Mecklenburg Lake District wants to be the first district to start with the new vaccine in the Neubrandenburg Bethaniencenter on Monday.

Rostock, Schwerin and the Vorpommern-Rügen district will follow on Tuesday.

Ludwigslust-Parchim on Friday.

Originally, the protein vaccine from Novavax was initially reserved for employees of care facilities and clinics, for whom vaccination will be compulsory from mid-March and who are skeptical about the new mRNA vaccines from Biontech and Moderna.

However, the Ministry of Health in Schwerin lifted this restriction because the number of registrations from these areas remained low.
