Ewha Womans University Professor Emeritus Lee Eryeong, who served as the first minister of the Ministry of Culture, has passed away at the age of 88 after battling cancer.



Born in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do in 1933, the deceased worked as a literary critic, journalist, and professor, and was called Korea's representative scholar and the most intellectual of our time.



He served as the first Minister of Culture, established during the Roh Tae-woo government, and was a member of the Korean Academy of Arts.



His burial place will be arranged at the funeral home of Seoul National University Hospital.
