Symptoms that women do not know about cancer that kills in the first year of its diagnosis

A survey conducted by Target Ovarian Cancer revealed that the majority of women are unaware of the warning signs of ovarian cancer, which affects survival rates.

Ovarian cancer kills about a third of women in the first year after diagnosis and is often diagnosed in the later stages.

The charity said, according to RT, that three-quarters of women do not know that bloating is one of the main symptoms of ovarian cancer.

And the opinion poll conducted by the organization, and published by "Daily Mail" and included 1000 women, showed that 79% of them do not know that bloating is a major symptom of ovarian cancer.

The experts also found that 68% of them are unaware that abdominal pain is a warning sign of malignant cancer, and 97% of them are unaware that feeling full is also a major sign of the disease.

The results of the survey also indicated that most women, 99% of them, do not know that the need to urinate more urgently, is also a major sign of ovarian cancer.

GPs often diagnose these symptoms with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

The survey found that about 40% of women incorrectly believed that ovarian cancer could be detected by screening the cervix.

"Knowing the symptoms is critical for everyone," said Anwyn Jones, CEO of Target Ovarian Cancer.

We need to make big government-backed advertising campaigns a reality.”

"If we do this, fewer people will be diagnosed later, fewer will need surgical treatment, and eventually, fewer ovarian cancer will die unnecessarily."

Ovarian cancer is defined as the growth of cells formed in the ovaries, and these cells multiply rapidly and can invade and destroy healthy body tissues, and it is not known what is the main cause of the disease so far.

It is noteworthy that at the onset of ovarian cancer, no noticeable symptoms may appear, and when they do appear, they are often attributed to other, more common conditions.

Symptoms of ovarian cancer, other than bloating, abdominal pain, a feeling of fullness (rapid fullness when eating), and an urgent need to go to the toilet may include:

  •  Weight loss

  •  Feeling of discomfort in the pelvic area

  •  fatigue

  •  Back pain

  •  Changes in the frequency of defecation, such as constipation
