Three emperor tamarins have recently been visible to the public at the Upie zoo (Drôme).

The primate is easily recognizable by its "very pretty white mustache", explained Alexandre Liauzu, head of the animal park, to France Bleu Drôme Ardèche.

The arrival of the animals from South America brought smiles to the visitors but also to the managers of the zoo.

A flight that marked the memories

The establishment was indeed the victim of a theft in August 2021. The criminals had taken with them eight ring-tailed lemurs and two labiate tamarins.

Only the lemurs had been found.

The gendarmes of Crest (Drôme) are still looking for tamarins.

Upie Zoo has since secured the services of a surveillance company and strengthened its security system.

Alexandre Liauzu described the theft as "trauma".

He also indicated that if the two stolen animals ever return, they could coexist smoothly with the emperor tamarins.
