Câtiment de sang
by Céline Picard, winner of the Unpublished Polar Prize, published on February 11, 2022 by Éditions Novice.
His favorite quote:
"Without a head, no teeth, without hands, no footprints!" »
Why this book?
Because this novel has just won the Unpublished Polar Prize
, for its first edition.
Based on an original idea by Timothé Guillotin, founder of Novice editions.
The Unpublished Novel Prize paved the way for this innovation last year, which gives first-time authors a new chance to be published.
Because even if I'm not familiar with this category of books
, more by habit to direct me towards the novel than by lack of interest, here I am reconciled with the thriller genre (even if I was never really angry... ) thanks to an extremely well-executed suspense, rhythm and coherence in the plot!
Because Céline Picard masters her writing, balances her effects,
and maintains the tension in a rhythm that never runs out of steam.
Because no detail is left to chance,
nothing weighs down the plot, nothing superfluous.
It is undoubtedly linked to the personality of the author who is a scientist.
A Cartesian reasoning in a spirit that nevertheless leaves room for an overflowing imagination.
For those who have read
Misery
by Stephen King, the common point between these two books lies in the cruel madness of criminals.
The novel is very visual, anchored in a reality that tends to be projected in front of a screen as much as in the reading of this book.
The essentials in 2 minutes
The plot.
Céline Picard takes the reader in the wake of two police officers who are investigating an unprecedented murder case.
A contemporary noir novel that takes the reader into the dark and tumultuous past of a strange family.
Characters.
Charlie and Amy, two policewomen who meet on a first murder investigation.
Then one of the notable members of a local family becomes the common point of each of the crimes to follow.
Places.
The deep French countryside, no one knows where exactly.
Rurality and its specificities are excellently described.
The time.
Current.
The author.
Céline Picard, scientist and firefighter.
We find through his words his perfect biological knowledge which serves the story.
This book was read with
curiosity at first, then an impatience to turn the next page set in from the start.
I was immediately grabbed.
