After the death of a restaurant visitor in Weiden in der Oberpfalz, the police released further details about the origin and content of the champagne bottle ordered.

Accordingly, the bottle was bought via an online platform.

It was completely filled with the drug ecstasy, there was no champagne in it.

The police said on Tuesday that there was no suspicion of criminal activity by people in Weiden.

"At the moment it is more likely that the bottle was purchased on the Internet in good faith in an original product and then served," it said.

Investigations continued to focus on the tampering and distribution channel of the bottle.

A group of visitors had shared a champagne bottle in the restaurant the Saturday before last, and eight people collapsed after the first sip.

A man later died in a hospital.

The other seven have since been released from the hospital.
