An exhibition of unique paintings is being held in Ena City, Gifu Prefecture, where a plate of Mino ware, a specialty of Gifu Prefecture, is used as a canvas, and pictures of Western food and sashimi are drawn on it.

The work was produced by Yuji Nakamura, a painter from Toki City, Gifu Prefecture, and 56 works are on display at the venue.

In the work, a white plate of Mino ware is likened to a canvas, and Western dishes such as omelet rice and pork cutlet, assorted sashimi, and oil paintings such as shortcake are drawn just like the real thing.

Mr. Nakamura was particular about superimposing various colors to bring them closer to the real color, so the fried food clothes and shredded cabbage use cotton swabs to express subtle patterns.

Visitors were looking at life-like paintings that were "likely to be eaten but not eaten."

Yuji Nakamura said, "I drew it with all my heart to make it look delicious. I want you to enjoy the fun atmosphere."

This exhibition "Inedible Western-style restaurant Kitchen Nakamura" is open until March 31st at the tourist facility "Taisho Roman Kan" in Akechi-cho, Ena City.
