If you don't keep up with the times, you keep up with the times.

According to Florian Klenk, every Austrian farmer knows this sentence.

The editor-in-chief of the Austrian weekly newspaper “Der Falter” explains what that means in this episode of the book podcast.

His intensive occupation with agriculture began with a dispute: Klenk applauded a judgment awarding damages to the relatives of a tourist who was trampled to death by a cow in Austria.

The owner of the animal had to pay.

The farmers' lobby reacted irritably.

A farmer named Christian Bachler then mocked Klenk in a video on Facebook and said he, the unsuspecting townsman, should do an internship on his farm.

Klenk accepted the offer and got to know a world that he liked on the one hand, but which is on the verge of extinction on the other.

EU directives and the agricultural industry are making life increasingly difficult for small farmers.

Bachler was also in existential need - and Klenk started a crowdfunding campaign to save his farm.

Florian Klenk's "Bauer und Bobo" was published by Zsolnay Verlag, has 160 pages and costs 20 euros.
