China News Service, Beijing, February 19 (Fang Min) "The status quo of marine ecology is much worse than most people think." Recently, the second-level researcher of the South China Sea Institute of Oceanography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, responsible for the coral biology and coral reef ecology discipline group The person Huang Hui, live broadcast Lianmai on the official accounts of Kuaishou and China News Network, to popularize coral knowledge to users, and call for attention to the current situation of coral.

 From "scientists" to "coral mothers"

The nearly two-hour live broadcast that day attracted 674,000 netizens to watch, and also brought users a profound discussion on the theme of marine ecological protection and coral survival crisis

As the "engine of marine life", corals carry an important function of maintaining biodiversity on the seafloor.

But in the past 30 years, up to 50 percent of coral has disappeared.

In the face of the severe living situation of corals, Huang Hui, who has been engaged in coral research and rescue for more than 20 years, said that in order to save corals, more people must see the living conditions of corals and pay attention to them consciously.

Since 2005, Huang Hui has devoted himself to coral research and practical actions to save corals.

Therefore, Huang Hui is also affectionately called "coral mother" by the media.

Regarding this title, Huang Hui said: "'Coral mother' is a nickname given to me by the media. If I am based on my age, I feel that I should be called 'Coral Grandma', and my most important identity is a scientific researcher engaged in coral research. Personnel, this is my permanent 'identity card'."

Are all sea areas suitable for growing corals?

In response to this problem, Huang Hui said that a "reparability assessment" should be carried out before planting corals.

"Actually, corals have clear requirements for the hardness of the seabed, the quality of water quality, the transparency of water quality, and the degree of human interference. To ensure the survival of planted corals, a series of preparatory work must be done in the early stage."

It is not only necessary to inspect the sea area before planting, but also to adapt to local conditions and plan ahead for coral planting.

Huang Hui said: "The most commonly used method of coral planting is the 'rivet method', that is, using nails to fix corals in suitable sea areas. However, for sea areas with different substrates, our planting methods should also be adapted to local conditions. Some sandy soils The sea area is not suitable for the 'rivet method', then we have to artificially make a reef bottom for the coral to play a better role in fixing."

Through the live broadcast, users have a new understanding of coral planting, but what everyone does not know is that Huang Hui's team is still a team of senior "Versailles" scholars with "divers" per capita.

"In scientific research work, enthusiasm is not enough, but also practical work. There is a lot of information in the work that needs to go to the sea and into the water, so I require the members of my team, whether they are students or colleagues, to hold a certificate, and myself. An old diver," she explained.

During the live broadcast, Professor Huang Hui showed a video of the team's work. In the video, the researchers were tanned by the sea breeze and the scorching sun, with a bright smile on their faces.

In Huang Hui's words, this is the role of love.

Because of their love, Huang Hui and his team members tried to find a "life-saving recipe" to save corals and marine ecology among the walls of scientific research books and piles of scientific research instruments.

"Short video + live broadcast" embraces marine ecology

In order to save the marine ecology, Huang Hui's team recently used the "short video + live broadcast" method to popularize coral knowledge and show the work process in Kuaishou, so that more people can pay attention to coral, ocean and ecology.

Huang Hui believes that with the publicity and support of the short video live broadcast platform, people only need to pay attention to the survival of corals and participate in online activities to protect corals, and they can do their part to protect corals. This is the rise of the short video live broadcast industry to society. and great contribution to nature.

According to the Kuaishou platform, it has been making continuous efforts in the field of protecting corals and marine ecology. In December last year, the United Foundation jointly launched a coral rescue operation. Users complete a coral cultivation online, and there will be a special fund for the South China Sea Ocean Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Under the guidance of the experts, we jointly planted this coral on the seabed in the name of the user.

In addition, an innovative coral public welfare interactive platform - "Kaishou Coral" has been built online. You can participate in coral and marine protection by searching for keywords on the platform.
