A change in color of the Ourcq canal was observed this Wednesday at Meaux (Seine-et-Marne).
The water turned white and cloudy.
Its appearance is reminiscent of milk.
Surprised, walkers gave the alert, says
Le Parisien
.
A dam system was quickly installed to prevent the phenomenon from spreading to other sections of the river.
Ongoing analyzes
This system was set up by the canals department of the City of Paris, owner of the canal and responsible for its maintenance.
Specialists have also sought to determine the reasons for this strange coloring.
For this, they took water samples.
The first results of the analyzes are expected on Thursday.
Experts do not know if the milky appearance of the canal is due to pollution or if it is a natural reaction.
No complaint had been filed on Wednesday evening.
Since the first observations, the color of the water has returned to normal in some areas.
