Severe storms hit Europe on Thursday.

At least five people were killed as winds reached 180 km/h and caused disruption to rail and air traffic.

Three people died in Poland, and two others in Germany, victims of the storm Dudley, on the eve of the arrival of another storm, baptized Eunice.

In Krakow, in the south of Poland, the fall of a construction crane, under the effect of strong gusts, killed two workers and injured two others.

Another man was killed when a tree fell on his car in the west of the country.

In addition, the wind blowing up to 125 km/ha seriously damaged some 500 houses, uprooted roofs, felled hundreds of trees and deprived 324,000 homes of electricity.

Dangerous trees during a storm

In neighboring Germany, a 37-year-old motorist was killed when a tree fell on his car on a country road in Bad Bevensen in Lower Saxony (north), according to the police.

Another 55-year-old motorist died after a tree fell on his car on a country road in Schwenda in central Saxony-Anhalt state, police said.

Schools were closed in several regional states of the country, and the police recommended not to cross parks and forests, while long-distance trains were paralyzed in the morning in the northern half of the country, including the capital Berlin or the great northwest metropolis Hamburg.

Disruptions in transport

The German airline Lufthansa has for its part canceled 20 flights, departing from Frankfurt am Main, the largest airport in the country, to Berlin, Munich or Hamburg where a violent wave broke the front windows of a ferry of sailing on the Elbe.

It was in the Czech Republic that the winds blew the strongest with up to 181 km / h recorded on Snezka, the highest mountain in the country.
