In April last year, a trawling boat overturned in the Seto Inland Sea off the coast of Okayama Prefecture, killing a couple. We have summarized the findings that there is a possibility of overturning.

Last April, the Japan Transport Safety Board investigated an accident in which the bottom trawler "Yusei Maru" overturned and the couple on board died in the Seto Inland Sea north of Shiraishi Island, off the coast of Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture. The report has been published.

According to it, the capsized fishing boat was found in the sea area directly exposed to the wind, and the height of the wave at the time when the capsized was estimated was 1.5 meters or more, which was a little high.

In addition, fishing nets were left on the seabed near the site in a state of being caught by stones, etc., and the found ship showed evidence of trying to pull up the fishing nets.

Under these circumstances, the Japan Transport Safety Board concluded that seawater may have flowed into the ship and capsized under the influence of wind and waves when the fishing nets caught on the seabed were pulled up.

As a measure to prevent recurrence, the Japan Transport Safety Board should refrain from fishing when the weather is expected to deteriorate, and if the fishing net is caught on the seabed and cannot be removed, it should decide to abandon the fishing net and stabilize the ship. Pointed out.
