A wedding party turns into a tragedy with the death of 13 people who fell into a well

A wedding ceremony in India turned into a tragedy after 13 people, including a one-year-old child, died, falling into a well in northern India, according to local authorities.

The victims, all women and children, were sitting on a board covering the well before the board collapsed and fell from above, in an incident described by Indian President Narendra Modi as "heartbreaking".

Modi announced $2,662 in compensation for each of the victims' families, in addition to $665 for the injured, according to CNN's News-18.

Authorities in Kushnigarh district, where the accident occurred, announced an additional $5,323 to each of the victim's families, according to News-18.
