- In Sweden, it's a bit ugly to have a competition like this.

But somewhere I think this is the only healthy ideal left in this country, says Joakim Granberg.

- All sex soaps and all programs where you have to post nude pictures to get followers ... Here we have something that captures many girls and boys.

For an artist, it is a crash course.

"They called from the United States"

Just as the Miss Sweden pageant did in the past, Miss Universe Sweden nominates Sweden's contribution to the international television pageant Miss Universe.

Today's Swedish version of the beauty contest takes place without the large million audience on television that the Miss Sweden contests had in the 90s.

- I have inherited the competition.

In 2009, they called from the USA because then no one took care of this in Sweden, says Joakim Granberg.

"Would never think of it today"

The magazine Veckorevyn founded the Miss Sweden competition in the 1940s, but several former editors-in-chief today question the event.

- Every now and then I was responsible for this.

I did not feel that it was something I felt morally bad about.

Today I would never think of a competition like this, it seems completely baroque, says Claes Blom, editor-in-chief of Veckorevyn 1994-1997.

In the series Edit: What Happened, you can see more about the Miss Sweden competition through the ages.

The series can be seen on SVT Play and on SVT1 22:00 on 16 February.
