In the film Blue Bayou, Alicia Vikander and Justin Chon play a family struggling to make ends meet in the southern states of the United States, when Justin's character is suddenly forced to confront his past.

The film is based on real stories of adopted Americans who grew up in the United States, but can be deported and deported if they commit crimes.

- I have several adopted friends and heard that children who have been adopted by American citizens can be deported as adults.

At first I hardly thought it was true.

But after my research, I realized that this was the case and also it is almost impossible to enter the United States again, after an expulsion, says Justin Chon.

Praised for Gook

He has previously directed the film Gook, which won the audience award at the prestigious Sundance Festival 2017. Justin Chon works untraditionally and Blue Bayou, he has both written the script for, directed and also plays the male lead.

From Hollywood to independent

Since she was awarded an Oscar 2016 for The Danish Girl, Alicia Vikander has mostly had roles in large lavish Hollywood productions.

But now she is playing the female lead in Jon's new film.

- I have followed Justin Chon's career since the beginning when he came out with the film Gook.

The reality is that just because he is American and has Korean parents, he has not gotten that many jobs!

But he started writing and directing because he did not get any roles.

It is hoped that change is underway, says Vikander.
