Late on the night of the 16th, a fire broke out in a room in a housing complex in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and an elderly couple living in this room was taken to a hospital, but died afterwards.

Police are investigating the exact cause of the fire.

Around 10 pm on the 16th, a local resident reported to the fire department that smoke was coming from a room on the 4th floor of a 7-story housing complex in Ikegami, Yokosuka City.



As a result of nine fire engines coming out and extinguishing the fire, the fire was extinguished about an hour later, but Makoto Yoshimoto (79) and his wife Asa (81) who live in this room were taken to the hospital. Then he died.



According to the police, Mr. and Mrs. Yoshimoto lived together in this room.



Police are investigating the exact cause of the fire.



The site is an area where houses and schools are lined up about 1 km away from Kinugasa Station on the JR Yokosuka Line.
