A deer dived into the Aisne to evade hunters who were chasing him on Saturday in the forest of Compiègne (Oise).
The scene took place near the lock of Rethondes (Oise), specifies Actu Oise.
The collective AVA (Abolissons la vénerie today) said that the animal had no other choice in order to stay alive.
The activists also denounced the attitude of one of the crew members.
No-hunting zone
He would indeed have descended from his horse to enter on foot a site belonging to Voies navigables de France (VNF).
Any hunting activity is however prohibited on the river domain.
In the past, the establishment lodged a complaint after intrusions of this type.
VNF was also alerted to Saturday's events.
Once the deer was in the water, hunters positioned themselves on both banks of the Aisne in order to be able to watch for its exit from the river.
The animal, however, never reappeared.
After several hours of waiting, the hunt was abandoned.
