The investment continues to apply to feature films as well as children's and short films, documentaries and the development of new talents.

SVT also promises to "invest time and commitment for the future issues of Swedish film".

"In the increased competition for talent - directors, producers, screenwriters and actors - SVT wants to guarantee a long-term perspective that we believe is good for Sweden," says SVT's CEO Hanna Stjärne in a press release.

The news about SVT's investment in Swedish film comes just a week after Anna Croneman, program manager at SVT drama, came out with the news that they can no longer afford to make long TV series.

In the future, SVT's drama series may be both shorter and fewer.
