The Russian doctor, Yelena Tsareva, a specialist in neurology and sleep sciences, warned that the incorrect position during sleep can cause discomfort and in the long run contribute to serious diseases.

"RT Arabia" and "Novosti" quoted the doctor as saying that people often get used to sleeping in the same position, but sometimes this may harm their health.

She explained that, for example, sleeping in the side position is the most beneficial from a medical point of view, but pressure on the left side of the body can negatively affect the condition of a person with heart disease, so it is better for him to sleep on his right side.

The doctor indicated that lying on the side is better physiologically and should be preferred during sleep.

During sleep in this position, the elimination of metabolic products takes place more quickly.

Pointing out that sleeping on the left side is not recommended for those who suffer from heart and lung problems.

The doctor stressed that those who suffer from retraction of the tongue should not sleep on the back, which causes temporary pauses in breathing during sleep, and explained that sleeping on the abdomen is the most harmful to health, because it may cause problems in the spine.

The doctor confirmed that sleeping on the stomach makes some muscles tighten strongly, and this can lead to pain in the neck and head, in addition to the fact that the habit of sleeping on the stomach can disrupt metabolic processes and provoke the development of Alzheimer’s disease, she said.
