【New Year Chronicle】Chengdu's Millennium Hakka Ancient Town

[Explanation] The ancient town of Luodai, founded in the Three Kingdoms period, is located in Longquanyi District, Chengdu, Sichuan. More than 85% of the residents in the town belong to the Hakka people. It still retains the strong Hakka hometown voice, rural appearance, nostalgia, and rural style. Therefore, Luodai also Known as "the first Hakka town in western China".

During the Spring Festival of the Year of the Tiger, the streets of the ancient town are covered with red lanterns, and the New Year is strong.

In addition to Hakka delicacies from all over the country, there are also Guangdong Guild Hall, Jiangxi Guild Hall, Huguang Guild Hall and Chuan Bei Guild Hall, which are specially built for the migrating Hakka villagers to gather and discuss important matters.

[Explanation] In the Cantonese Guild Hall in the ancient town, Wen Yang, an 84-year-old returned overseas Chinese, is visiting the Spring Festival exhibition.

Wen Yang is from Shantou, Guangdong. In 1956, he returned from Indonesia to study. After graduation, he went to work in Sichuan and later settled in Chengdu.

Wen Yangji is a Hakka, and the strong Hakka culture in the town makes him feel very friendly, and he will come and walk around in his spare time.

The customs of the Hakka people are basically still preserved here, so after we came here, we felt that there was not much difference with our Guangdong (customs).

Therefore, the Hakka people especially like to celebrate during the Chinese New Year and festivals. This kind of atmosphere can be seen everywhere in this place, and you can also experience this kind of atmosphere in person.

During the Lantern Festival, we Hakka people participate in the lantern festival, and we bring our family members, especially our grandchildren, to play with the lanterns.

[Commentary] Zhu Zhi, a 45-year-old Hakka family, once studied in Canada.

For him, the most unforgettable experience of studying abroad is meeting Hakka people and speaking a few Hakka dialects.

After serving as a member of the Political Consultative Conference of Longquanyi District, Chengdu, Zhu Zhi has repeatedly submitted proposals on the protection and inheritance of Hakka culture.

Now there are (Hakka people) all over the world, including when I was studying abroad, I often encountered some overseas Hakka people.

When I was young, I felt that as a Hakka, I can speak Hakka, one more language than many other children, so I am often proud in front of them.

The Hakka dialect is passed down in this way through language.

Now in Chengdu, I feel that there are fewer and fewer people in our next generation who can speak Hakka, so I am more worried about this matter.

[Explanation] Hakka Tulou is the representative of Hakka architectural culture.

In the huge circular earth building in Luodai Ancient Town, the Western Hakka Museum was built in it, attracting tourists from all over the world.

In front of the five Hakka migration route map in the museum, the Hakka Wei Guanghui stood for a long time.

During the Spring Festival this year, Wei Guanghui's daughter, who was studying in France, was unable to go home for the New Year, but for Wei Guanghui and his family, the strong New Year's taste has not diminished.

Our whole family made a video with my daughter during the Chinese New Year to maintain the lively atmosphere of the Chinese New Year.

I am a Hakka who grew up in a Hakka environment.

When I was a child, the whole family of the neighbors spoke Hakka, but now it is difficult to hear Hakka, and I can't find this language environment.

Today we arrived in Luodai. In the past, the street was full of Hakka people, and they all spoke Hakka when they bought things from each other, but now it's hard to find this feeling.

I'm about to retire. After I retire and return home, one of my wishes is to find the purest Hakka dialect, and then exchange some Hakka customs with them, to experience it, and to find the feeling of my childhood.
