In recent years, Spain has made a name for itself by allowing amateurs to "restore" historically valuable art.

The latest example is a statue of a smiling girl, who after the increase is likened to Star Wars characters and Donald Trump.

And the examples before that are many, from sculptures painted in bright colors, to the world-famous Apjesus.

But maybe the reactions are exaggerated?

Most works can be restored without damaging the original underneath - at least when it comes to paintings.

Even Apjesus can become his former self, says conservator Anna Catellani.
