Even in normal years, the Berlinale doesn't have it easy with its red carpet opening.

The occasion calls for glamor and thin dresses, the temperatures usually call for thick down jackets and woolen stockings.

Last year, the public part of the festival in Berlin was postponed to summer due to the pandemic, so that it was a little easier for the guests to put on the thin dresses and airy suits for the galas.

In what is now the third year of the pandemic, people are venturing back to the winter date with full presence and numerous protective measures.

Of course, this also leaves its mark on the red carpet.

The German actresses, producers and filmmakers came dutifully.

The usual Berlin political celebrities used the occasion to dress up.

And there were also a few international guests, after all the opening film “Peter von Kant” came from French director François Ozon.

So what was there to see on the red carpet?

Jury President M. Night Shyamalan shone in a smoky blue velvet tuxedo.

Young German acting talent Lorna Ishema dazzled photographers with sparkling sequins on a long skirt and matching gloves.

And Heike Makatsch defied the cold in a black nineties-style spaghetti strap dress.

Many felt the same way as Makatsch did at the first premiere of the film festival: the predominant color of the dresses and suits was black – as if concerns about the omicron wave had also spread to the outfits.

We picked the most colorful ones from the red carpet snaps.

Now your question is: Which look do you like best?
