Universal Music becomes the owner of a catalog that includes both the hits of his solo career (Fields of gold, Englishman in New York) as well as the early songs with the band The Police (Roxanne, Every breath you take).

The price of the song catalog is not known, but American media speculate that it is between 250 and 360 million dollars, corresponding to 2.3 to 3.3 billion kronor.

The record company Universal already owned the rights to Sting's recorded songs, but not the rights to music, lyrics and composition.

"I'm glad that my collective production ends up somewhere where you treat the songs with respect and value them," says Sting in a statement.

In recent years, several great artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon have sold their song catalogs for several billion cones.
