On February 10, the Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced that, according to the notice of the Polish Veterinary Inspection Service, an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza was reported in an area of ​​the Pomeranian province of Kujawi, Poland.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock and Food of the Republic of Korea, outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza occurred in Baoning City, South Chungcheong Province, and Pyeongtaek City, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.

The Centre for Food Safety immediately instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and poultry products (including poultry eggs) from the above-mentioned areas to protect public health in Hong Kong.

  According to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 4,460 tons of frozen poultry meat and about 30.2 million poultry eggs from Poland last year, and about 20 tons of frozen poultry meat and about 840,000 poultry eggs from South Korea, a CFS spokesman said.
