Sitting on a wall "Bingdundun" and want a "Rongbao"

The Beijing guy has collected more than 5,000 Olympic collections for more than 20 years

The Spring Festival holiday has passed, and the manufacturers of licensed commodities for the Beijing Winter Olympics have resumed work, but "Bingdundun" is still in short supply.

On February 8, there was still a long queue at the gate of the Beijing Winter Olympics licensed product flagship store in Wangfujing Gongmei Building, Beijing, at 9:00 pm, but even if they waited for several hours, they could only receive the "Pick up on February 22". "BingdunDun" pre-sale card.

But just when countless people are striving for "Bing Dun Dun", 35-year-old Beijinger Zhang Wenquan is sitting on a whole wall of various "Bing Dun Dun".

Zhang Wenquan told reporters: "I now have 70 or 80 'Bingdundun' plush toys and figures. If you count other collections in the shape of 'Bingdundun', there should be more than 200! Maybe apart from factories and shops, The 'bing dung dun' I have here is the most in the country!"

Zhang Wenquan is not a "hoarder" speculator. As a collector of Olympic souvenirs, "Bing Dun Dun" is only a small part of Zhang Wenquan's collection. "I have all the souvenirs of the Summer Olympics, Winter Olympics, Youth Olympic Games and Universiade. There are more than 5,000 pieces. 'Bing Dundun' I have been collecting since 2019."

Chengdu Commercial Daily-Red Star News correspondent Jiang Shan Photography Wang Hongqiang reports from Beijing

Collect more than 5,000 Olympic collections and spend as much as 400,000 to 500,000 yuan

At the end of a small hutong in Beijing's West Second Ring Road, there is an inconspicuous front door—the now extremely sought-after "Bingdundun", where the entire wall is piled up in a hut of more than 30 square meters.

Fang Zhang Wenquan is a staff member of a construction company in Beijing and an avid collector of Olympic souvenirs. His family keeps more than 5,000 Olympic-related souvenirs.

"This is the oldest in my collection - the original torch of the 1936 Berlin Olympics!" Zhang Wenquan handed over a golden screw-shaped torch, and picked up a silver torch with a glass head next to him, "This is the 2002 Salt Lake The torch of the Winter Olympics in the city, I spent tens of thousands of yuan to buy these two torches. In comparison, the torch of the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics is more precious, the glass on it is easy to break, and there were still collections in China at that time A hobbyist bought it too, but it was damaged in transit. Mine is the best preserved.”

Zhang Wenquan has been obsessed with collecting Olympic souvenirs since the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

For more than 20 years, he has collected souvenirs from the Summer Olympics, Winter Olympics, Youth Olympics, and Universiade after the 1936 Berlin Olympics, "mainly mascots, torches, venue models, and landscape flags."

Zhang Wenquan said that over the years, he has spent 400,000 to 500,000 yuan on Olympic collections. "Except for the necessities of life, almost all of my wages are used for collections."

He is not only a collector, but also a "Double Olympic Volunteer"

Zhang Wenquan not only spends money to buy Olympic souvenirs, but also actively promotes the Olympic Games.

In the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Zhang Wenquan served as a volunteer at the Wukesong Baseball Stadium, responsible for the printing and distribution of results.

In this Beijing Winter Olympics, Zhang Wenquan also became a city volunteer, giving himself the honor of "Double Olympic Volunteer".

In the MV of "Together to the Future", Zhang Wenquan also appeared.

He also shared a lot of information about the Winter Olympics in his WeChat Moments, "It is my duty to help the Winter Olympics."

Previously, Zhang Wenquan had held exhibitions of Olympic collections in some primary and secondary schools in Beijing. "During the Winter Olympics, I also held exhibitions at the China Science and Technology Museum, the China Film Museum, and some urban volunteer sites. Now there is a limited-edition 'ice' that I like. Dundun' was lent for exhibition. The community committee is also discussing with me, and they want to use my collection to hold an exhibition in the near future."

Zhang Wenquan said that his parents supported his hobby very much. "My father specially built 8 shelves for me in this room to store my collections."

In this room, the most attractive thing now is all kinds of "Bingdundun" souvenirs.

Zhang Wenquan told reporters: "Some people may think that I am hoarding strange things. In fact, it took me nearly 3 years to collect so many ice piers since 2019."

But now, the popularity of "Bing Dundun" has also caused trouble for Zhang Wenquan, "This afternoon (February 9), the special edition of 'Bing Dundun' went on sale online, and I was not able to grab it. It is very happy that Dundun is on fire, but it also affects my collection plan, which is really a happy and painful thing.”

I hope to be a volunteer for the Chengdu Universiade, preferably a torchbearer

On the evening of February 8, Zhang Wenquan took a taxi to the flagship store of licensed merchandise for the Beijing Winter Olympics in Wangfujing.

When the taxi driver on the road learned that he was a collector of "Bing Dun Dun", he immediately video-connected his son and advertised for Zhang Wenquan: "This person has a lot of Bing Dun Dun!"

At the moment when "Bing Dung Dun" became the top trend, "I have suddenly become popular now, and people who used to think that I was spending money are also looking for it, and they want to get it from me or buy Bing Dung Dun at a low price. There are also good friends who asked me to give them a few, but I really can't bear it."

Zhang Wenquan said that he would never sell his collections. "I don't like the exchange of items with other Tibetan friends, that is, I exchanged a few collections for a down jacket for the Beijing Winter Olympics this time."

At the end of the interview, when he learned that the reporter was from Chengdu, Zhang Wenquan became excited: "I really want the mascot of the Chengdu Universiade 'Rongbao', and now I have some souvenirs of the Chengdu Universiade, but there is no 'Rongbao' yet. '!"

Zhang Wenquan said that he really hopes to go to Chengdu to participate in the work of the Universiade. "I have also collected some souvenirs of the Universiade before, such as the torch of the Shenzhen Universiade and the model of the main torch tower of the Beijing Universiade. If I have the opportunity this summer, I hope to go to the Universiade in Chengdu. To be a volunteer, it would be the best if you could be a torchbearer!"
