Korean performance artist Geum-hyung Jeong and installation artist Lee Mi-rae were selected as participating artists for the main exhibition of the Venice Biennale, which is called the 'Art Olympics'.



The Venice Biennale Foundation has announced the list of 213 artists invited to the main exhibition of the 59th Venice Biennale to be held from April to November.



The Venice Biennale, the world's most prestigious international art festival, operates the 'National Pavilion' exhibition, where each country selects and presents their own representative artist, and the 'Main Exhibition', which the biennale director personally plans and boasts. Korean artists Jeong Geum-hyeong (42) and Lee Mi-rae (34) will participate in the 'Main Exhibition'. 



Geum-hyeong Jeong and Mi-rae Lee are known as artists who embody exhibition themes such as the transformation of the human body and the connection between the body and the earth.

Artist Jeong Geum-hyung is famous for his original performance that separates everyday objects from their original uses and treats them as if they were living things. 



Building her own domain as a dancer, performer, and choreographer, she participated in the 2014 Gwangju Biennale and Koreana Museum Special Exhibition, the New Museum Triennale in 2015, and received the Hermes Foundation Art Award in 2016.

Artist Lee Mi-rae, who also participates in the exhibition, is an installation artist who travels between Seoul and the Netherlands, and he received early attention as a 'conceptual sculpture', dealing with humans and actions, the human body and the organs of animals.



She participated in Seoul Media City Biennale in 2016, Gwangju Biennale in 2018, and Lyon Biennale in 2019, and she has participated in special exhibitions such as Ilmin Art Museum and Art Sonje Center.

In 2020, she held her solo exhibition at the Art Sonje Center, and she took off through residency at Cite in Paris, France, and Nanji Creative Studio at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Seoul.



The Venice Biennale, held in odd-numbered years, will open in Venice, Italy on April 23 as it has been postponed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.



Cecilia Alemani, the art curator of New York's High Line Park, has been selected as the general director of this year's Venice Biennale, and the exhibition will be decorated with the theme of 'The Milk of Dreams'.
