Novelty A luxury hotel at the Canfranc train station and other five-star openings to dream of in 2022
Experience The longest train journey in the world: from Portugal to Singapore
Many travelers have a soft spot for trains.
"All flights are the same, but all train travel is different," says writer Paul Theroux.
If, in addition, the rattle is on board a glamorous patent-coated convoy, full of luxuries and pampering, the adventure
redoubles its magic
.
This is what happens in the evocative tourist trains of Renfe, a railway commitment that returns after two years of hiatus due to the pandemic.
There are novelties in these first-class railway jewels.
The lavish Transcantábrico Gran Lujo, the Expreso de La Pobla and Al Andalus, the operator's fetén trio, is joined by the Costa Verde Express, which debuts this spring in the Jacobean Year.
Recreating himself in the landscapes of the north of our geography, he will gallop between
Bilbao and Santiago de Compostela
.
The convoy is these days finalizing
its set-up in workshops
for its grand premiere in April.
It is the heir to what was the Transcantábrico Clásico, although part of
the interior of the wagons
has been remodeled and, of course, the exterior, as explained by Renfe.
The Costa Verde Exprés will have 23
grand class
rooms with capacity for 46 people.
They are
cabins set
with that nostalgic touch of another era: covered in wood, large windows, elegant curtains, double beds, porcelain sinks and a desk where one imagines Agatha Christie devising Hercule Poirot.
The kitchen of the Transcantábrico.
The trip offers breakfast, lunch and dinner on board or in selected restaurants, as well as guided tours and tickets to monuments and shows along the way.
The
grand class
experience differs from that of the Transcantábrico Gran Lujo, perhaps the most exclusive train, due to the itinerary (six days instead of eight) and the price (€7,000 compared to €11,550 in a double cabin).
The Transcantábrico, almost complete
Without losing sight of the sea, the Transcantábrico returns to the tracks in April, although almost all of its routes have already posted the full sign this year.
The exclusive convoy circulates in both directions between San Sebastián and Santiago de Compostela.
For its part, the unique
Expreso de La Robla
presents two alternatives this season: One route that follows the old route of the coal train between León and Bilbao, which coincides with the French Way, and another, called the Pilgrim's Route, which
allows
different stages of the English Way, between Ferrol and the city of the Apostle.
One of the 'grand luxury' suites.
The Transcantábrico Gran Lujo, the Expreso de La Robla and the Costa Verde Express will make their trips along the
metric gauge routes in
the north of the peninsula, while the Al Andalus will make its classic immersion in Andalusia.
What is already one of the most recognized luxury trains in the world makes a circuit from
Seville
for seven days (six nights) during the months of May, June, September and October.
Next to the Andalusian capital, passengers have the opportunity to explore cities such as Jerez, Cádiz, Ronda, Granada, Baeza, Úbeda and Córdoba.
The themed trains
In addition to the luxury trains, Renfe will offer a series of excursions on rails to live a different experience on board.
As happened last summer, in
Galicia
this season up to 13 one-day routes will be scheduled, and in Castilla-La Mancha the classic
Medieval Train
will circulate between Madrid and Sigüenza.
A novelty this year is the Tren de los Molinos between Madrid and Campo de Criptana, still without specific dates.
These join the Wine, Canal de Castilla, Zorrilla, Teresa de Ávila or Antonio Machado trains that draw the railway offer in Castilla y León.
