Japan .. Law to abolish the "divorce kit" imposed on women

Some social media accounts circulated allegations that Japan decided to impose a law requiring women not to remarry after the first marriage for a period of 100 days, similar to the concept of "divorce waiting" contained in Islamic law.

This came after the circulation of a leaflet saying, "The legislative authorities in Japan decided to impose a law similar to the number of divorces on women, with the aim of preventing women from marrying immediately after their separation from their ex-husband."

Verifications of the news revealed the error of those allegations, and it turned out that there is already a law in this regard, but the truth is that it is still under study, and it is also a law that aims to abolish the requirement to wait for a hundred days and not the other way around.

The Embassy of Japan in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ended this controversy, as it said that a draft amendment to the civil law was submitted on the first of this February, which includes canceling the ban on divorced women from remarrying before the expiry of 100 days since their divorce.

And a tweet from the embassy on Twitter explained: “What happened is that the advisory council of the Japanese Minister of Justice submitted a proposal to amend the Civil Code on February 1, which included canceling the ban on divorced women from remarrying before the expiry of 100 days since their divorce, contrary to what was circulated completely.”

For its part, the "Japan in Arabic" page confirmed what the embassy said and clarified that the purpose of the draft law, "which has not yet been enacted," is the opposite of what was circulated, noting that this bill, as it was approved, "will cancel what some have likened to several divorces."
