China News Service, Yantai, February 8th: Visiting the police station of seven people in the depths of the Bohai Sea: the police keep their youth on the island

  Reporter Yang Bing

February is the coldest time of the year on Daqin Island. After several days of strong winds, the reporter finally boarded Daqin Island, which is located in the northern part of the Changdao Islands deep in the Bohai Sea.

This is the first well dug after the establishment in 1958. The water is hard and salty, but the predecessors rely on it to provide daily water.

Daqin Island has a total land area of 6.76 square kilometers, lush forests and stubborn rocks. It is also known as Scorpion Island because it is suitable for the survival and reproduction of scorpions.

The police officer Yi told reporters that the island is foggy in spring and summer and windy in autumn and winter. The speed of this sea "changing its face" is unexpected. Sometimes it is sunny in the morning, but suddenly sea fog comes in in the afternoon.

"Hello, I received a notice from the first day of the new year, and finally stopped the wind and navigation, and waited until you came." Liu Jianhua, director of the Qindao Coastal Police Station, warmly greeted reporters from Chinanews.com.

Liu Jianhua is a native of Sichuan. After graduating in 2008, he came to the island with a dream of guarding the border and stayed there for 14 years.

The police office of Daqin Island is responsible for various public security operations on the five northern islands, and the police station implements the policy of "not closing during the Spring Festival".

A 10-minute walk from Daqin Island Pier is the police station.

The blue and white three-story building is clean and fresh, and the courtyard is also furnished with reefs, lighthouses, and sailboats for landscaping.

Next to a well, there is a big stone engraved with "Remembering the bitter and sweet", which is eye-catching.

The police told reporters that this was the first well dug after the institute was built in 1958. The water was hard and salty, and it was downright brackish water, but the seniors at that time relied on it to provide daily water.

"This well is no longer in use now, but we have preserved it as a witness to history, always reminding us island watchers not to forget history and to be grateful for the present life." Director Liu Jianhua described the origin of the well.

In the yard of the police station, the police are feeding chickens.

The most difficult thing on the island is the inconvenience of transportation. In winter, there are often strong winds and stoppages, ranging from a week to half a month. When there is a shortage of fresh vegetables, you can only eat stored potatoes, pickles and shrimp paste.

It is understood that there are currently 7 police officers stationed at the Qindao Coastal Police Station, from 5 provinces, with an average age of 32 years old.

On the island, they have all experienced the situation where there is an urgent matter at home but can only be in a hurry.

The policeman, who was chatting with reporters in high spirits just now, received a call from his home.

"My dad is in the hospital again? Why didn't you tell me what happened?" On the other end of the phone, the policeman Zhang Hui seemed a little helpless. He learned from the phone that his father was hospitalized for asthma again.

"Actually, what my mother said is right. It's useless to tell me, and I can't rush back." Zhang Hui, born in 1992, is from Jinan, Shandong, and this year is his tenth year in Daqin Island.

The 30-year-old Zhang Hui is still single, and being urged to marry by his family has become a routine.

Not only Zhang Hui, but also many handsome and handsome island guard police officers are often rejected in blind dates due to work reasons.

The unmarried policeman yearns for love, while the married policeman is full of debts to his family.

Since getting married in 2012, the director Liu Jianhua and his wife have been together less often. When the child was young, the family of three lived in three places. If they wanted to watch the child, they could only use the mobile phone video, which made the child think that the father was the mobile phone.

"After marrying you, I realized what it means to be 'seeing each other across the sea' and 'so far away'..." Every time he heard his wife's complaints, Liu Jianhua's heart filled with sadness and guilt.

Decades of bronze bells have witnessed the bitter and happy lives of generations of border guards.

The police station has always kept the habit of ringing the bell for meals.

Although they spend less time with their families, the police are not alone.

"The residents on the island are our relatives." Deng Chao, a policeman, told reporters that when the supplies were not available, the residents took the initiative to borrow rice and vegetables to the police. When there were criminals on the island, some residents actively provided clues and even helped arrest.

"We spend the Spring Festival together on the island every year, and we eat at my house on the first day of the new year." Tang Daoqiang is a resident of the island. He said that it is only when they come to eat at home during the festival.

Outside the kitchen of the Qindao Coastal Police Station is a bronze bell the size of a bowl with the words "Assembly Number" written on it.

Cheng Zhilin, the deputy director, told reporters that the police came from the building to change batch after batch, but everyone kept the habit of ringing the bell while eating.

This knock is more than 60 years old, and the police here are used to calling it the "Assembly Number".

Chili is a standard item on the dinner table. The 7 people at the police station are from 5 provinces, of which the director Liu Jianhua and the policeman Deng Chao are from Sichuan and Hunan.

Year after year, generations of police guarding the island have taken root on the island and dedicated their youth to this small island far away from the land.

This Spring Festival, the police from the Qindao Coastal Police Station are on duty patrolling to ensure the safety of the island at all times.

Director Liu Jianhua said that loneliness is not a reason, and hardship is not an excuse. His parents, wife and children are in different places, and they are also guarded by a group of people. He and his comrades must also guard the island.
