Surrounded by competition from Leclerc and Aldi, the Leader Price store in Évreux (Eure) was chosen by the Casino group, owner of the brand, to carry out an experiment.

The storefront of the large retail establishment, which now displays “LP”, hides many innovations aimed at satisfying the customer as best as possible, reports

on Monday.

Thus, people who go to this store to do their shopping are now obliged to “self-scan”, that is to say, to scan their products themselves.

For this, customers can use their smartphone or a "scanette" made available on site.

Once at the checkout, they must use a QR code so that their shopping basket is registered by an automatic checkout.

Announced time saving

This is a new way of proceeding which is a real time saver and which allows “to follow up on expenses in real time”, according to the management of the store.

In total, no less than 2,000 references are listed.

Discounts are also offered if a product is purchased in large numbers and important promotions are put forward.

According to Olivier Dauvers, specialist in mass distribution, Leader Price is embarking on this experiment in order to align itself with Lidl but also to improve its image.

The store, for example, indicates to customers the distribution of the charges which result in the prices charged.

On these posters in the establishment, everyone can see what tax is applied to a particular product, the cost of logistics or the supplier's share.
