Marlon Brando was far from being tender with the women who loved him and Rita Moreno largely paid the price.

The 90-year-old actress, who can be seen alongside the Hollywood icon in

The Night of Tomorrow

(1969), was kind enough to address this abusive relationship that lasted eight years and pushed her to the worst.

“I tried to end my life with medication.

That's how I chose to do it.

I didn't realize that I wasn't just going to kill this pathetic, sad, oppressed Rita, but that the rest of Rita would also go with me.

I really didn't seem to understand that.

But it was an attempt, ”she told Jessica Chastain in an interview hosted by Variety.

Still in love

Despite all of Marlon Brando's abuse, Rita Moreno seems to have remained partly in his grip.

“Overall, it was exciting to be with Marlon.

Oh, my God, that was exciting.

He was amazing in so many ways, but he was a bad boy,” adds the actress, who readily admits she was a “different person” when she was with him.

“I had everything from a doormat.

So every time he lied, I looked at him and said, “Marlon, look at me”.

And then he smiled with all his teeth, this embarrassed smile.

I could read him like a book and that's why he loved me, and that's why he abused me in so many ways,” she further recalled.
