After Disney announced that Rachel Zegler had been chosen to play Snow White in the live-action adaptation of the 1937 classic, many critics poured into the networks.

For some, the role should not go to a Latina actress.

“It was a huge thing that was trending on Twitter for days, because everyone was angry,” she lamented during a chat with Andrew Garfield hosted by

Variety

.

To which the actor replied: “Ah, these people.

The people we need to educate.

The people we need to reach with love”.

And indeed, for the actress who bursts the screen in Steven Spielberg's

West Side Story

, this role is the perfect opportunity to break down the prejudices of the most reactionary fringes of the web.

A latin princess

“At the end of the day, I have a job to do that I'm excited to do.

I'm becoming a Latina princess, ”chained Rachel Zegler before explaining that Snow White was a very popular figure in the Hispanic world.

"Blanca Nieves is a huge icon, whether you're talking about the Disney cartoon or just different versions and the Grimm fairy tale and all the stories that come with it.

But you don't particularly see people who look like me, or who are me, playing roles like that,” she continued.

For now, Disney has not yet announced a release date for this new adaptation of

Snow White

, but filming should begin within the year.
