• The health protocol in force in schools requires each student who is in contact to carry out three self-tests, which must be negative.

A test for children as much as for parents.

  • On social networks, a mother claims that it would be possible to blow her child's nose, then carry out the self-test from the secretions present in the handkerchief.

  • A process that would suit young and old, if only it were reliable.

    takes stock.

"We can blow the child's nose and collect the secretions using the bottle brush provided in the kit, it avoids constantly fiddling with their noses", announced a mother on Facebook several days ago.

She affirms that it is about the “council of a pharmacist”.

Many other publications go in its direction on Twitter.

Since the entry into force of the new health protocol in schools, “three negative self-tests (carried out on D0, D + 2 and D + 4)” are to be carried out for children declared contact cases.

The cases of Covid-19 are numerous, more than 21,000 classes are closed according to the government.

Many parents can no longer bear having to inflict so many tests on their children, sometimes very young.

Being able to perform a test only by blowing your toddler's nose would therefore be excellent news.

"It's a good idea because frankly they can't take the self-tests anymore," says a mother in the original publication.

We do not sufficiently realize what they are going through psychologically and morally…”

FAKE OFF

Contacted, the author of the Facebook post nuance: “No one gave me this advice directly.

I just shared a post where I found the idea not bad for children.

The Ministry of Health is categorical: “It is not a recognized and reliable method.

Pierre Béguerie, president of the office of the Central Council A (holders) of the National Order of Pharmacists, issues a “very, very reserved” opinion on the process.

“The self-tests are done by nasal swab because the bottle brush must scrape the nasal walls to take a good sample from where the virus is located, that is to say in the nasal epithelium”, he specifies.

To self-test it is necessary to turn the instrument several times in the nose, and this in both nostrils.

“I have serious doubts about the effectiveness and reliability of the result [by blowing your nose].

The self-tests already have less reliability so from the nasal secretions, it seems very artistic to me.

In addition, there are not enough secretions in the handkerchief,” adds Pierre Béguerie.

However, the president understands the dismay of the parents: "It's true that when you have little kids, it's not pleasant to twiddle their noses, so we could easily turn to this method, but it's not compliant.

For him it is still important to "play it down at the level of the child because he has a memory of the nasopharyngeal test, but it is not at all the same".

A test, whether PCR or antigenic, carried out by a professional goes deeper into the nose than a test carried out even at home.

"What I tell children is that it's like when they put their finger in their nose," jokes Pierre Béguerie.
