Russia is preparing for an achievement that no one has done before... a "historic mission"
The head of the Department of Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Lev Zhelioni, announced today a historic step that Russia intends to take in the space field.
Zilioni said that for the first time in history, Russian scientists want to send three vehicles to Venus in 2029-2034, to transport soil samples back to Earth.
He continued, "We are not only thinking of the Venera de mission, but of an entire program. The story of delivering soil samples from Venus is very fascinating as the final mission."
According to a presentation by Zilioni, three missions under the Russian Venus Exploration Program are scheduled for 2029, 2031 and 2034.
According to "Sputnik", in 2029, the spacecraft "Venera-D" with orbital, landing and demonstration units, in addition to atmospheric units, will head to Earth's neighbor, and the second expedition is scheduled for 2031.
It is worth noting that "Venera-D" was a joint Russian-American project, but the Russian Space Agency "Roskosmos" announced earlier, that it would implement it "as an independent national project without broad participation of international cooperation."
The Russian program to explore Venus includes three missions between the years 2029-2034, and an urgent mission may be added in 2027 to search for signs of life on the planet.
The Venera-D project aims to establish a long-term station on Venus to study the planet's surface and atmosphere.
