The ceiling for event support will be raised by SEK 5 million, the government announced today.

The support share is also increased, so that the organizer can get help to cover costs of up to 90 percent.

This applies to events that are to take place or have been canceled between January and March this year.

Emelie Löfmark, chairman of Sweden's producer and private theaters, believes that today's announcement of increased event support is good, but far from enough.

- You miss talking about possible crisis support.

We would need broader crisis support from the Swedish Arts Council to us organizers, and from the artists' committee to the artists who have lost their jobs, she says.

Only a fraction has been paid out

Event support was introduced to provide organizers with financial compensation for events that were canceled or severely forced to cut back on the audience.

Despite the fact that the government has set aside three billion in event support, so far only a fraction, 65 million, has been paid out.

Several organizers have been critical of what is seen as a complicated application process.
