Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, at the head of the movement that carried out the military coup in Burkina Faso on Monday, is a relatively unknown lieutenant-colonel responsible for overseeing security in Ouagadougou last December.

The soldiers indicated that "the operations took place without bloodshed and without any physical violence on the arrested persons who are being held in a safe place with respect for their dignity", without mentioning names.

A curfew is in place from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. local time throughout the territory.
