Saudi statement: Air navigation in the Kingdom is safe from interference with fifth generation networks

The General Authority of Civil Aviation and the Communications and Information Technology Commission in Saudi Arabia clarified in a joint statement that the air navigation systems in the Kingdom’s airspace and airports are safe from potential interference with the fifth generation mobile communications networks, and that the frequencies used in air transport ensure the conduct of air navigation without any risks of interference and meet the requirements of Airspace users to provide high quality navigation services that apply the highest levels of air safety.

The General Authority of Civil Aviation indicated that it is constantly working on modernizing and developing the air navigation infrastructure and closely following technical developments, including new standards for the fifth generation network frequencies, in order to meet the increasing needs on air traffic and the rapid growth of air traffic in the region with a focus on safety, and achieving The highest standards in air traffic flow in accordance with the standards and requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

For its part, the Communications and Information Technology Commission confirmed that the frequency bands of the fifth generation network in the Kingdom are defined according to technical standards compatible with international best practices for more than (40) countries around the world, noting its role as a national regulator of the frequency spectrum by enabling and supporting various radio services for the national sectors in the field of Defense, security, space, aviation, communications, meteorology, and others, as it is keen to enable highly reliable and safe services for all users, including navigation systems on board aircraft, and that these systems used are safe from the risks of radio interference through the fifth generation networks.
