• The positivity rate for screenings has now reached 30.4% in Pays-de-la-Loire.

  • The incidence rate has crossed the bar of 3,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

  • Fortunately, the number of patients in intensive care is decreasing.

Despite the general frustration, the peak of contamination from the Omicron wave has not yet arrived in the Pays-de-la-Loire region. The regional incidence rate continues to climb and now reaches 3,050 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (up to 3,200 in Loire-Atlantique), according to the latest data from the regional health agency (ARS). The same is true for the positivity rate of people presenting for a test: one in three screenings is now positive for Covid-19 (30.4%). The reproduction rate of the coronavirus stands at 1.39, a figure above the national average.

“The wave is there and it continues to rise.

The situation is worrying”, considers the ARS.

Cluster volume reached "record highs" this week.

“There are at least 320, including 160 in health establishments.

This is double the previous week.

All departments are affected, ”adds the health authority.

No pressure in intensive care

As a result of the increase in the number of cases, the number of hospitalizations has also increased by 30% in one week: 863 Covid patients are now hospitalized in Pays-de-la-Loire. Conversely, the pressure in the intensive care unit is decreasing (105 people currently being resuscitated) and remains at a lower level than previous epidemic waves. "We can confirm today that the virulence of the Omicron variant is fortunately much lower than that of the Delta variant", notes the ARS.

As for the vaccination campaign, it is beginning to reach fewer inhabitants.

It must be said that just over 68% of eligible people (+18 years) received their third booster dose.

Of the entire population (all ages combined), 81% of residents of the Loire region have been administered at least one dose of vaccine against Covid-19.

This is slightly more than the national average (79%).
