Because of the killing of a man in the United States, the district court in Landshut, Bavaria, sentenced a US citizen to eleven and a half years in prison for manslaughter on Thursday.

According to a spokesman, the judges also ordered accommodation in a specialist clinic because of drug addiction.

The original charge was murder for base motives.

However, the court was not convinced of this after hearing the evidence.

The trial was about a violent crime that happened in 2018 in the US state of California.

The accused fled the USA after the crime and was arrested on arrival at Munich Airport in 2020 because there was a US arrest warrant against him.

He successfully opposed extradition to the USA through legal channels.

Therefore, the process ran in Landshut.

According to the indictment, the 25-year-old defendant and his victim got into an argument at a crossroads.

The accused is said to have tried to get into the car of the man who was later killed.

When he prevented and pushed him back, the accused is said to have drawn his gun and aimed at the man.

Accordingly, the victim mockingly asked the accused to shoot him.

The man then fired at his opponent several times at close range before he got behind the wheel of the dead man's car.

He drove away in his car, deliberately running over the victim again.

According to the court spokesman, the accused expressed deep remorse in his so-called last word and referred to the "pain" caused by his actions at the time.

He also wants to accept the punishment.

With their verdict, the judges essentially followed the request of the public prosecutor's office, which after the evidence had been taken had also spoken out in favor of a prison sentence of 13 years for manslaughter.

She also called for the man to be placed in a rehab clinic.

The co-plaintiff maintained the murder charge.

The defense pleaded for nine years in prison for manslaughter and also spoke out in favor of treatment in a specialist clinic.
