  • Vaccination The rate of deaths from Covid is up to 48 times lower with the third dose than without the vaccine

More total antibodies after the third dose of the vaccine

, more neutralizing defenses, both against the omicron and delta variants, and cellular immunity is maintained after the third dose, according to the conclusions of the ENE-Covid Senior Study, carried out in people older than 65 years old.

Some 1,200 people from residences and also recruited through primary care centers.

This was announced by the Minister of Health,

Carolina Darias

, and the director of the Carlos III Institute (ISCIII),

Cristóbal Belda

, after the meeting of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (CISNS).

Both advanced the realization of these two works.

last September, together with another ENECovid on the persistent form of SARS-CoV-2.

Belda commented that the first results have been collected in the last four months that have included the different vicissitudes of the pandemic.

"The third dose and the omicron variants forced us to modify the studies," says Belda at a press conference after today's Interterritorial Council.

The increase in antibodies is independent of whether there is natural or artificial immunization.

Belda emphasizes that "

up to 20 times more total antibodies have been detected after the third dose, which work against omicron and delta".

Specifically, 17 times in the case against delta and 10 omicron, as detailed by Belda.

In Spain, 89% of those over 65 have already received the third dose

Pending study in the general population

The latest ENECovid-19 data in the general population is from December 2020. At that time, the so-called fourth round indicated that one in ten people in Spain would have been infected by the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.

These data will be greater now that the infections, underdiagnosed in the sixth wave, already exceed eight million in total.

In the fourth round, the seroprevalence was double what was calculated in the first round of the study.

The seroconversion rate stands at 3.8% and the percentage of asymptomatic patients in relation to the total of positives is estimated at around 30%.
