Han Tianqian is a native of Haitai Village, Xinqiao Town, Xiangshan County. After graduating from the Civil Engineering Department of Ningbo Advanced Industrial Vocational School in July 1943, he was admitted to the Department of Geodesy of the Central School of Surveying and Mapping.
He is one of the pioneers of Chinese astronomy and geodesy, and he established the first measurement point on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the roof of the world.
